Our History

We are a local group working to protect Bampton’s character while supporting sensible, sustainable development.

With over 300 members, we play an active role in local planning matters.

We believe development should be:

• Small-scale • Sustainable • In keeping with Bampton’s character

We are independent, non-political, and funded entirely by our members.

Our History

The SPB was founded in 1993 by local resident Mick Donoughmore, who became worried about potential development of land near New Road

Shortly after this, there were plans to build a number of houses in the heart of Bampton—on what is now Sandford’s Field.

The SPB opposed this and, thanks to Mick's  perseverance and generosity, the development was stopped. Today, Sandford’s Field is:

• Owned by the village

• Used for fetes and events

 • Enjoyed by everyone

A reminder that community action can make a lasting difference.

With the arrival of Covid in 2020, the SPB initiated and funded the village Covid support group, known as Bampton Aid Network (BAN).

This quickly established a dedicated mobile number through which a team of volunteers could be accessed to do all types of jobs, mainly the collection of prescriptions and shopping.

Long after lockdown ceased, BAN continued managing Covid vaccination clinics for the elderly and vulnerable in local surgeries.
