Over the years, we have had a number of success where we have prevented unwanted development - but we have also had several failures, where, despite our efforts, large scale developments went ahead.
In 2013, a developer proposed 127 houses off Aston Road.
The SPB: • Led a major objection campaign • Raised nearly £30,000 • Commissioned flood experts • Engaged a planning barrister
The application was refused—and the appeal dismissed in 2015.
👉 This protected a flood-prone site from large-scale development
At least for now. The threat never goes away
In recent years, two large estates were approved in Bampton:
• ~160 homes (Cala Homes]
• ~160 homes (Taylor Wimpey)
The SPB objected on a number of grounds, including:
• Scale
• Flood risk
• Limited infrastructure
Despite this, both were approved by WODC
The main reason these developments were permitted, despite a great deal of local opposition, was because our local authority, West Oxford District Council (WODC) did not have a Local Plan in place
